Which habit

Coffee is one of them: a pause, a conversation, a familiar gesture. Sorso was born in Turin, the city where the espresso machine was introduced in 1884, with one idea: take that ritual out of the kitchen and into the world.

Our story
From a university project to a working prototype.
Sorso began at the Politecnico di Torino as a group project of five design students, then became a master’s thesis. Today it’s a personal project, carried forward through research, experiments and a lot of spilled water.

What is Sorso?
A portable espresso machine project developed in Italy. It explores how a coffee machine can become personal, repairable and easy to carry. Briù is its newest prototype.
What’s the difference between Briù and Open Sorso?
Briù is automatic: heating, pump and battery are built in, and one button does the rest. Open Sorso is the first prototype: manual, with a syringe to create pressure, and fully documented so you can build it yourself.
Is Sorso open source?
Open Sorso is: its files and documentation are shared under a CC BY-NC-SA licence. For Briù, what to open and how is still being defined.
Can a 3D-printed machine make real espresso?
Yes. Espresso depends on pressure, temperature, extraction and good coffee. Sorso explores how to reach them with a portable, 3D-printed design.
